At Palazzo Mocenigo on a reception to honour the visit of Frederick Augustus II of Saxony, Tartini was confronted by Francesco Maria Veracini from Florence, a violinist few years older and more experienced.
The episode is recalled by the first biographer of Tartini, Francesco Fanzago, who reports the frustration of the Piranese owing to acknowledge the seniority of the colleague in handling the bow.
Due to this debacle, Tartini retired from the stage for a period of technical learning.
Years later he will issue an educational work known as L'arte dell'arco, partly published without the author's consent in France.
