28 - Tartini and Nazari at the choir loft of St. Mark's Church

Venice

The fame Tartini earned as a violin virtuoso and composer during his lifetime accompanied his arrival in Venice, where he often performed in the city's main churches.

Francesco Caffi, author of the Storia della musica sacra nella Basilica di San Marco (History of Sacred Music in Saint Marco Basilic), attests that he “shone many times even in the choir of the Ducal Chapel [...] for solemn functions [...] where Nazari, first violin, who had been his pupil, immediately gave him his place and played alongside him”.
