The Friars Minor arrived in Piran even before the construction of the church and the convent. The Church of San Francesco, which dates back to the year 1301, was built in Gothic style, and over the centuries underwent several substantial renovations, up to now reflected in a predominantly Baroque look that took shape between the 18th and 19th centuries. A special touch is given by the Renaissance aedicula, a pulpit with particularly valuable casts, numerous altars and precious paintings by Venetian painters of the 17th and 18th century. Beneath the church floor lie the tombs of numerous Piranese families, including that of the Tartini.
The convent boasts a library that also preserves specimens from the 15th century and many works of musical literature, while the cloister offers unique acoustics, and it is precisely for this reason that for many years it has hosted many important musical events, such as the Piran Musical Evenings and the Tartini Festival.
