The Tartini festival is an international summer chamber music festival dedicated to one of the greatest European artists and composers of the 18th century, Giuseppe Tartini. In addition to his works, the festival also presents the masterpieces of other Slovenian and non-Slovenian composers, as well as other works by contemporary artists inspired by the Tartini’s art. During the evenings of the Tartini Gold Festival, in an evocative coastal environment, the notes of the famous Tartini violin resonate with the repertoire of his works performed by the best musicians. Some are dedicated to connoisseurs of classical music, others are open-air concerts designed for a wider audience (“Tartini beneath the stars”), or during open days at Slovenian musical institutions.
Since 2002 the Festival has been held every year in August and September, hosting the best musicians who work with world-famous orchestras, such as the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, the London Symphony Orchestra, the Camerata Academica Salzburg and the Chamber Orchestra of Europe. In recent years the soloists who perform at the festival are accompanied by the ensemble Il terzo suono, composed of members of various international orchestras that operates under the artistic direction of the famous Sergio Azzolini.
