Little Giuseppe was taught to read and write by the friars, where he also learned the basics of musical theory and began to play the violin. With his father, he probably also attended the Piran academy called the Dei virtuosi (‘the Virtuous gods’), a meeting place for artists and intellectuals in the city, where music, literature and philosophy were discussed during the meetings. Tartini very soon developed a love for instrumental music, and this remained his lifelong passion.
