In 1692, in Piran, the spouses Giovanni Antonio Tartini and Caterina Zangrando embraced the fourth of their nine children, Giuseppe. The date of birth is uncertain; from the documents it appears that on 8th April 1692 the infant was baptized in the baptistery of San Giovanni Battista near the parish church of San Giorgio in Piran – and, in fact, this date replaces that of his date of birth.
