Prato della Valle is the largest square in Padua, and one of the largest in Europe and for the Paduans it is just “il Prato” (“the Meadow”). At the centre of the large open space is an elliptical garden, surrounded by a moat. The elegant appearance of the Prato is given by the double row of statues, one inside and the other outside that run along the entire length of the canal. The statues are dedicated to the most prominent personalities who have lived in the city, and among them, at no. 29, stands the statue of Giuseppe Tartini, created by Sebastiano Andreossi in 1806. The Maestro of the Nations holds up a medallion, within which is depicted Antonio Vallotti, his friend and colleague at the Orchestra del Santo.
