In the other wing, temporary exhibitions of great appeal are put on in rapid succession. The Civic Theatre Museum documents the life of theatre and music in Trieste from the 18th century through to the present day. Costumes and stage jewellery, flyers, posters, photographs, prints, medals, paintings, musical instruments, objects, archival collections and autographed manuscripts constitute the backbone of a theatre of memory that for almost a century has increased its collections in the spirit of its founder. The first floor offers an exhibition dedicated to the history of the theatrical buildings and to the protagonists of music and entertainment in Trieste over a period of over two centuries.
A significant section of the exhibition is dedicated to the collection musical instruments from Europe and beyond, and to the faithful reconstruction of the laboratory of the Trieste violin maker Francesco Zappelli. The exhibition of musical instruments, with particular attention paid to the mechanical ones, continues on the second floor of the building, where there are also spaces dedicated to the memory of Giorgio Strehler. Documentation and consultation services are available to scholars.
