MUSICAL SUGGESTIONS

5 - Castle of Miramare

Trieste

Inside you can admire the mosaics of the apse on the left with the Madonna amongst the Archangels from the 12th century and that on the right with the mosaic of Christ between San Giusto and San Servolo from the 13th century. The mosaic in the central nave dates from 1932. On the left opens the Treasury Chapel.”

“The castle was built between 1856 and 1860 as a residence for Archduke Maximilian of Habsburg and his wife Charlotte of Belgium. The Austrian engineer Carl Junker designed it in an eclectic style, harmoniously blending Gothic, Medieval and Renaissance elements, according to the architectural fashion of the time. On the first floor, the dwelling houses the private apartments of the Archduke, while on the first floor there are the splendid reception rooms. The furnishings we see are still the original ones of the time. The arrangement of the immense park was curated by Maximilian himself, who chose statues, fountains, an English garden and an Italian garden together with a collection of rare and exotic plants. In a wing of the castle stables, located at the entrance of the park, you can admire the brand new BioMa, the Immersive Museum of the Protected Marine Area of Miramare managed by the WWF.
