36 - Miserere and new theoretical studies

Padua

Tartini was increasingly taken by theoretical speculations and committed to refuting his critics. In this year were published: “Of the principles of musical harmony contained in the diatonic genre” and the “Response of Giuseppe Tartini to the Criticism of his Treaty of Music by Monsignor Le Serre of Geneva”. Il Miserere dates back to this period, one of the rare vocal religious pieces written by Tartini. Il Miserere was performed for the first time on Holy Wednesday in the year 1768 in the Sistine Chapel in the presence of Pope Clement XIII.
