The Tuscan Giovanni Antonio Tartini came from Florence to Piran as a merchant, where he met Caterina Zangrando, a descendant of one of the most ancient noble families of the place. The couple started a family, choosing for their home a beautiful house in the centre of the city, today’s Casa Tartini, near the then mandracchio - the inner harbour - where the Piazza Tartini stands today.
