Tartini to [Michele Stratico?] I-Vmc, Epistolario Moschini, without call number. Published in Canale, 1994: pp. 28-29 and in Bellina, 1991: p. 298. In the forthcoming book Quarrels on harmonic theories in the Venetian Enlightenment , Chapter D, Section D.3, pp. 13-16) Patrizio Barbieri proposes to identify the recipient as his pupil Michele Stratico: “As already stated, the identity of this correspondent remains unknown. Considering however (1) the great familiarity Tartini uses with him, even calling him ‘my declared enemy’, (2) the fact that he is a violinist, (3) his noteworthy familiarity with musical theory, especially on the septimal ratios, and (4) his authorship of the ‘Octuple system’ (as we shall now see), he can be identified as none other than Michele Stratico (1721-1783). Besides being his pupil as a violinist, he also left a manuscript with the revealing title Lo Spirito Tartiniano, che dialogizza, e disputa con un suo dormiente discepolo, sopra le materie più importanti contenute nella disertazione De’ principj dell’Armo- nia contenuta nel Diatonico genere ”. 123) 1756, 10 March.
