Giuseppe Tartini - Lettere e documenti / Pisma in dokumenti / Letters and Documents - Volume / Knjiga / Volume II
466 179. Tartini to his nephew Pietro in Piran Padua, 25 October 1769 I received days ago your most dear letter to my relief, as I ascertained from the letter that you had successfully and safely return to the motherland. Since I wrote days ago via the post station of Palma to Signor Giuseppe in Trieste about the matter of the young Neapolitan violin player, and have not received any reply whatsoever from my nephew, I suspect that my letter did not reach him. Learn from him whether he has received it or not, because in case of loss if necessary I can take action in a safer way than via Palma, and if he has received it, tell him he should give me a reply, as this is a very delicate matter. On his return from Bologna Signor Antonio, who dearly greets you, has brought with him the hemp yarn, 110 which is superbly spun; it is in my hands, and with the first journey of my patron Domenico Manzon, I will send it to Signor Pezzi, from whom you will be able to recover it and make use of it without any expense on your part. I now wish to know two things. One is the fate of the purchase, since if the Marenzi property were not successful and it became necessary to think of another, I must confirm to you what I told you in person, and that is that, in order to favour all of you, I have truly made things difficult for myself, so if God wishes to lengthen my path for a few years, I genuinely do not have as much as I need. And so, in the latter case, we must necessarily divide the inconvenience in two, with my leaving you all 500 ducats and taking back the other 500. To this solution there is no remedy, if I live; and if instead I die, you shall find them in my inheritance as the balance of the sum I have been using for my support. The second is your news; and this news is absolutely necessary for me, so I beg you to send it to me with the greatest possible haste. I embrace you most cordially, as I do everyone in the family, and I am as ever your most affectionate uncle Giuseppe Tartini 180. Tartini to his nephew Pietro in Piran Padua, 26 November 1769 I have been strongly entreated by the Most Illustrious Caldani, the leading professor of medicine, to ensure the safe delivery of the enclosed letter into the hands of 110 Hemp yarn is a thread made from the cannabis plant.
