Giuseppe Tartini - Lettere e documenti / Pisma in dokumenti / Letters and Documents - Volume / Knjiga / Volume II
435 LETTERS 148. Tartini to G.B. Martini I am taking the liberty of addressing these two packages to Your Reverence, free from all expense, so that Your Reverence can send them to Florence to the person mentioned in the enclosed note and send them by means of some safe and particular circumstance. I was unable to spare you this inconvenience in any way, as it was to serve my dearest student Signor Nardini 90 of Livorno, who is returning to his homeland from Vienna, but his journey takes him from Padua to Milan, and it is important for him that these two packages arrive before him in Florence in the hands of Signor Dottor Bertini. I am sorry he has not passed through [Bologna], so that you could make his acquaintance and hear him. He is a prodigy, and I thank God for having heard as much before my death. As soon as possible, Your Reverence shall receive another box: meanwhile preserve your love for me, and be assured that as ever I am as I remain Your Reverence’s most devoted and obliged servant Giuseppe Tartini Padua, 8 May 1761 149. Tartini to G.B. Martini I have taken the liberty of sending Your Reverence two packages on behalf of a student of mine, who is on his way to Florence but has made his way via Milan. Perhaps by now Your Reverence will have received them accompanied by a letter in which I informed you not to pay out any money for them. But you never know where you are when you deal with carriers, because they like to cheat. So if this letter of mine arrives in time, I ask Your Reverence to pay out what is needed with the certainty of being reimbursed as soon as I am notified of the sum. Again I ask you to forward the packages to Signor Don Bertini in Florence and for now, while submitting to you my most humble and cordial respects, I confirm myself to be Your Reverence’s most humble, devoted and obliged servant Giuseppe Tartini Padua, 15 May 1761 90 M.T. Dellaborra, “Nardini, Pietro”, in Ng, vol. 17.
